The start of the spring sports season is already underway.

Practice has begun and anticipation is in the air as teams look forward to the upcoming season. Last week, the winter sports season continued to wrap up as boys regional play took place.

New Haven was the only local boys basketball team to remain alive and advance. Local girls teams have already been eliminated. Let’s take a look back at last week and the best boy and girl nominations for Athlete of the Week. With the winter season concluded for girls sports, consideration was expanded to previous weeks.

Madeline Trombly, Port Huron High

The Port Huron High School senior overcame a knee injury to return to the court with confidence and lead the Big Reds down the stretch. She was instrumental in the Big Reds upset victory over Port Huron Northern.

She also proved to be an inspiration to her teammates along the way and will leave the program with the Big Reds trending in the right direction.
